Early on Saturday, April 13th, 2024, in Layton, Utah, Matthew John Scott Morris passed away unexpectedly, but surrounded by loved ones.
Where do you even start with a man that's done everything? Matt was born in England on April 13th, 1957, to John Robert Morris and Pauline Beryl Watford. He remained proud of his English heritage his whole life. Matthew and his siblings were able to return to England in 2023 to memorialize their mother. They visited many wonderful places from their childhood and made unforgettable memories.
Matt graduated from Morgan High School, and later went to Weber State to get a Bachelors Degree in Integrated Studies, Psychology, Sociology, and Communication. He used his education to give back to others. He was passionate about any community he was a part of. His heart was always in serving others and doing whatever he could to help those around him. He accomplished his goals in helping others during his time working at the Division of Child and Family Services, the Ogden YCC, and the Division of Workforce Services. He changed lives wherever he went and made friends quickly.
During his time working at DCFS, he met the love of his life, JeanMarie Callister. Their love was proof that opposites really do attract. They were married in Fruit Heights, Utah in 1997 and then were sealed in the Bountiful, Utah temple in 2011. Through the ups and downs of life Matthew and JeanMarie created a bond that truly will last for time and all eternity.
In 2006, after years of interaction with many faithful members and many enthusiastic missionaries, Matthew joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His love for Jesus Christ helped him through many of life’s challenges and he was always a firm believer in paying tithing and the power of priesthood blessings.
In the last years of his life, he enjoyed traveling with JeanMarie. He retired in February 2024 and was planning many grand adventures.
Matthew will be remembered for his humor, generosity, and knowing anything about everything.
Matthew is survived by his wife, JeanMarie Morris; four children two by birth, John Caden (Isabelle) Morris, Madeline Marie (Nathan) Holloway, Christopher Clark, Trevor Clark; his siblings, JoAnna Spencer, Andrea Morris, Lynette Finnila, and Mark Morris; and his favorite and only grandchild James Oliver Morris.
Preceded in death by his parents, John Robert, and Pauline Morris.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2339 West 1900 South, Syracuse, Utah, 84075. Cremation will follow.
