Matthew Phillips

1943 - 2025

Matthew Phillips, of Washington, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2025. The Lord placed Matt on this earth August 3, 1943, born to Matthew and Velma Hixenbaugh Phillips. He attended Chartiers Houston, where he graduated in 1962. He then joined the National Guard where he served for six years. On November 8, 1963, he married his childhood sweetheart, May (surviving). When his Lord called him home on Sunday they had been married 61 years. He was an amazing, wonderful dad to two surviving children, Shelly A. Phillips of Washington, and Scott E. Phillips (Sheila Phillips) of Lone Pine. Surviving are three grandsons, Justin M. Phillips, whom he and his wife raised, Scott Phillips and Dakota Phillips. Justin gave him three beautiful great- grandchildren, Rylee M., Oliver and Jaxon Phillips. He was the most loving, caring, giving person to all those who were privileged to know him. For him it was God, Family, and serving others. He spent 20-plus years at RCA, then retired from Sarris Candies at age 70. The Lord blessed him with vast creativity, which he used to build and remodel houses. He could decorate anything spectacularly. He also painted, refinished furniture, created art, and had a green thumb. His going home to Jesus has left a vast hole in our hearts.
