Matthew Piccolomini Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dello Russo Funeral Home - Medford on Apr. 21, 2025.
Matthew Francis Piccolomini, 97, passed away on April 13, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
The beloved son of the late Pasquale and Aida "Edith" (LaRiccia) Piccolomini, Matthew was a loving husband of the late Grace (Fabiano) Piccolomini and dear brother of the late Rose LaVorgna. Matthew is survived by his cherished children, Sandra Ryle and her husband William Ryle of Norwood, and Gail Bublis and her late husband Francis Bublis of Walpole. Matthew leaves behind his granddaughters - The Fab Five - Bonnie Liolios (Donald Liolios), Julie Ryle, Amy Udell (Gerry Udell), Jennifer Ingemi (Dominic Ingemi), and Melissa Bublis (Nicholas Battey). Matthew also leaves behind many loving great-grandchildren: Dominic (DJ) Ingemi Jr, Seamus Ryle-Gallant, Jack Ryle-Gallant, Daniel Ryle-Gallant, Oliver Udell, Georgie Udell, Grace Battey, and Frankie Battey. He is also survived by many cousins as well as "The Guys" with whom he made many fond memories over the years.
Matthew was born and raised in Boston's North End, graduating from the Michelangelo Intermediate School, class of 1942. After completion of his courses, Matthew went on to open a variety store with his father at the corner of Prince and Snow Hill Street where they sold their almost famous homemade lemon slush. Matthew was also a passionate concessionaire, supplying balloons and other novelties to fairgoers and parade watchers throughout New England.
Upon moving to Somerville where he raised his family, Matthew joined the Laborers Union, Local 151 and later retired to his Swifts Beach cottage in Wareham, MA where he made many lasting memories with family and friends.
Matthew was an avid angler and hunter. A proud member of the Wankinquoah Rod & Gun Club, South Shore Rifle & Pistol League, National Rifle Association, North American Hunting Club, American Gunsmithing Association, Bass Anglers Sportsman Society of America, and the North American Fishing Club, never going a season without his shellfish permit.
For his final stretch, Matthew resided at Cornerstone at Canton, where he was lovingly known as "Matteo." The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff for their compassionate care.
Our hearts are heavy, but filled with the joy of so many loving memories.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family on Thursday, April 24th from
4 - 8 PM at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford and again on Friday morning, April 25th at 8:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Leonard Church, Hanover St., Boston's North End at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
