Matthew James Porter, Jr., born on October 22, 2003, in Saranac Lake, NY, passed away on September 14, 2024, in Keene Valley, NY. He was a cherished son of Matthew and Melanie Porter.
Matthew was a hard-working construction worker who attended CV-TECH, where his hands-on skills shone brightly. He had a knack for building things, having crafted benches and Adirondack chairs for the local area. His love for the outdoors was profound - hunting, fishing, dirt bikes, and four-wheeler shenanigans were his passions; but his absolute favorite place to be was at camp. He found strong companionship with his canine friends, who were always at his side. Always the T-shirt and jeans kind of guy, Matthew found joy in simple pleasures and treasured moments with family, especially game nights in the garage playing cards. When he wasn't enjoying time at camp or playing games at home, he loved to play billiards with his friends.
Matthew's world blossomed after he graduated high school as he connected with friends who shared his interests. His nicknames through school were as unique as he was, including "Bunky, and Fingers". His high school yearbook described his love for going to Winterfest at Whiteface Mountain. He was known for his good sense of humor, and ordering pizza from the bus on the way back from Mineville. Although he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes about the depth of his character and kindness toward others.
He was preceded in death by his uncle Scott Scovell, and his great-grandmother Elizabeth "June" Auer.
Those left behind to cherish his memories are his parents, Melanie and Matthew Porter; his sister Nora Jane Porter, his nephew Jackson Wren who always called him Uncle Matty; his paternal grandparents Richard "Al" and Lola Porter; his maternal grandparents Harrison "Harry" and Holly Auer; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins who he had a special bond with, and friends.
"Well say, it's been quite a day"
Services will be held at his maternal grandparents home in Keene on October 19, 2024 at 12:00 p.m.
