Matthew Thomas Prentice-loving son of Dale and Peggy Prentice, brother, uncle and friend. A cherished individual, whose presence touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on family, friends, and the Progressive Lifestyles community. Surrounded by his Potter House family and caregivers, Matthew died peacefully at his group home on July 18, 2025 at age 65.
Matthew was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 29, 1960. He is survived by his beloved Dad, Dale Prentice, and his 5 loving siblings, Larry (Lauren) Prentice, Paul (Michele) Prentice, Margaret Prentice Schneider (Daniel), Suzanne Prentice Rose (Phillip), and Michael (Patrice) Prentice. Uncle Matt is also survived by 6 nieces and 6 nephews. Living at home with his parents and siblings until age 10, and then again from ages 15.5 to 26, Matthew's formative years were also spent at Pine Rest Christian Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI and Cloverdale Training Center in Farmington, MI. Matthew was a resident at Progressive Lifestyles group home for almost 26 years while attending day programs at Jewish Vocational Services and New Gateways.
To mourn is to have loved deeply, and though grief is heavy, gratitude is greater still. In celebrating Matthew, we reaffirm our own commitment to living with purpose, to cherishing each day, and to loving without reservation. His journey may have ended, but the memory of Matthew's courage and resilience endures-in the hearts of all who were privileged to share in the ministry of his care, from birth to death. Joyfully we remember Matthew's smile and laughter that lifted spirits. These are the treasures we carry forward, to guide those who remain, offering comfort and inspiration for all the days to come. Rest in peace, dear son, brother, uncle and friend. The love you freely shared will forever be a blessing.
