Matthew Ryea Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jul. 19, 2024.
Matthew H. Ryea, 59, of 159 Gile Road, Alfred passed away Wednesday, July 17 after a long battle with acute myeloid leukemia surrounded by his wife, son and extended family.
Born in Connecticut and raised in Massachusetts, Matt spent most of his adult life in southern Maine.
Matt is survived by his wife Denice Ryea (Thompson) of Alfred, Maine, his son Chris Ryea of Sanford, his daughter-in-law Samantha and granddaughter Marie, brother John and his fiancée Pam, brother Larry, sisters Linda and Laura and her partner Wally, sister-in-law Sheila and stepchildren Ben, Kailee and Lindsey, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents Clifford and Lois, brother Brian and sister Karen.
He was a 37-year employee of SubCom, where he worked as splice technician/supervisor, where he had many close friends.
Matt loved to hunt and fish, spend time with his family and travel to Florida, especially Disney World. He enjoyed taking care of the home he shared with his wife Denice, and they spent many weekends on do-it-yourself projects.
In honor of his final wishes, Matt will be cremated, and a celebration of life will be planned for later this year to coincide with what would have been his 60th birthday. We will share more details about the service as we have them, but for now we encourage you to share a beer, a laugh and your memories of Matt.
