Severance, Matthew W. Sr.
MAPLEWOOD - Matthew W. Severance Sr., 57, entered into Eternal Rest, on January 25, 2026, surrounded by love, after a brief illness. He was born on December 28, 1968. A devoted family man, his family was everything to him, and he built his life around caring for and supporting those he loved most.
He had a deep love for the outdoors and could often be found enjoying fresh air, sunshine, some of his favorite places to be were either on his front porch, or poolside, relaxing, laughing, and soaking in life at his own pace. He found excitement in the roar of NASCAR and joy in trips to Lebanon Valley, passions that reflected his love for speed, competition and the thrill of the moment. Nothing brought him more happiness than time spent with his grandchildren. Those moments, filled with laughter, stories, and simple togetherness, were when he was truly at his happiest.
Matt will be remembered by all who knew him for his quick wit, sharp sense of humor and a remarkable ability to make people laugh, even in the hardest moments. He often made people laugh to the point tears ran down their faces. He left a lasting impression everywhere he went, his presence filled rooms with warmth, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Matt leaves behind his most loyal companion, his dog Gizmo, who was never far from his side and brought him constant comfort and joy.
He is survived by his father, Joseph R. Severance Sr. (Teresa); mother, Barbara Severance; sister, Julie Severance (Steve); In addition to his parents, Matt is survived by his sons, Matthew Severance Jr. (Krystal) and Timothy Severance (Tina); and his grandchildren, Alizè, Matthew III, Ryliegh, Hailie, Dorthy, Harlow and Timothy Jr. Matt also leaves behind a stepsibling, Lawerence Warner (Kylie).
Matt was predeceased by his brother, Joseph Severance Jr.; and his grandmother, Mary Larkin; and stepsibling, Thomas Warner.
Though he is deeply missed, his legacy lives on in the laughter he inspired, the love he gave so freely, and the family, and his faithful companion, Gizmo, who meant everything to him.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the team at Samaritan Hospital for their amazing staff especially, to Dr. Cheung. The care and support were truly amazing, and eased a very difficult time for our family.
