Mattie Elizabeth Allen Hubbard was born on February 14, 1929, in
Lewisville Arkansas and departed this life on June 26, 2025. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Garland Hubbard; her parents Samuel
J. and Jewel Sims Allen; brothers: Jerry, Oscar, Thomas, Edward and

After graduating from high school, Mattie joined siblings who had relocated
to Southern California in pursuit of greater educational and job
opportunities. For more than seventy years, she called Los Angeles home.
Driven by a passion for helping others, she dedicated many years working
in the nursing field supporting, comforting, and serving those in need.
She was a devoted Christian with a deep love for reading the Bible. In 1983
Mattie joined the West Angeles Church of God in Christ. She actively
participated in Sunday School and regularly attended worship services.
When she could no longer attend Services due to declining health, she
faithfully watched online.
She enjoyed hosting family gatherings and always encouraged family
members to remain connected. Those left to cherish and preserve her
memory include her daughter, Linda A. Thomas, niece, Gertrude Cox
Tatum whom she provided care for from age 13 to her entrance into
college; thirteen other nieces, eight nephews; three additional generations
of nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and friends who affectionately
called her "mom" or "Aunt Mattie" or "Ms. Mattie.
