Mattie Marie Nash was born on January 3, 1949, in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to parents Irene (Nash) Jefferson (John Henry Jefferson) and Buster Nash. Along with her siblings and mother, the family moved to Bartlesville when Mattie was just 5 months old, where she resided until her death.
Mattie attended Douglas School and graduated from College High School. Mattie went on to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, to receive her Certified Nurses Aide degree. She worked for St. John Hospital (Jane Phillips) in Bartlesville for 37 years. There she developed some lifelong friendships; Nancy Duff, who preceded her in death, Ethel Damon, and Ellen.
Mattie was a longtime member of the Greater First Baptist Church. She served on the Usher Board, sang in the choir, and she devoted her life to Jesus Christ, even in sickness. Her home was always one of peace. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Miracle Temple. She used to say, “Be careful how you treat people because you never know what they’re going through.
Mattie leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter: Nicole Dennis of the home, sons: Anthony Nash Sr. and wife, Kimberly of Vinita, OK and Donald Nash and wife, Denise of Bartlesville, OK. Mattie leaves behind 9 grandchildren: Bradley, Jamaal, Nathaniel, Brianna, Charity, Kylee, Anthony, Donovan, and Mocha; 11 great-grandchildren: Zavier, Haelie, Jaelie, Quincy, Malachi, Maddox, Mike Jr., Legacy, Emory, and Zayven, and 1 great-great grandchild: Franklin Jr.
Also left to cherish the memory of Mattie are sisters: Wilma Price of McAlester, OK, Violett Nash, Arveca Nash, and Yvette Nash, all of Oklahoma City, OK, Vicky Nash of Morris, OK, Viletta Faye Prince and husband, James, of Grove Town, GA.
Also left to cherish the memory of Mattie are her brothers: Nathan Jefferson and wife, Jackie of Bartlesville, OK, Donald Wardell Nash and wife, Gail, of Oklahoma City, OK, Buster Nash II of Tulsa, OK, and Eliav Nash and wife, Kimberly of Lawton, OK.
A visitation for family and friends for Mattie will be held on Thursday, October 24, 2024, at the chapel at Arnold Moore & Neekamp from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Funeral services for Mattie will be held on Friday, October 25, 2024, at the Greater First Baptist Church in Bartlesville at 1:00 PM.
