Maudie Mae Gaters, age 93, a resident of Ripley, TN passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.  Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN with Bro. John Gaters officiating. Burial will follow at the Zion Methodist Church Cemetery in Haywood County.  A time of visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2024, beginning at 1:00 PM until the time of the service. 
 

Maudie was born on January 14, 1930, to Luther William Gaters and Lillie Mae Jacques Gaters, both of whom preceded her in death. She loved her family, and she loved children. She loved to travel, and she was a good cook.  

She is survived by one brother, Raymond “Shorty” Gaters (Carol) of Ripley, TN; one sister, Bernice Smith of Ripley, TN; one sister-in-law, Sue Gaters of Brownsville, TN and a host of nieces and nephews.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Thomas Gaters, Luther Dean Gaters, and Walter William Gaters; her sisters, Peggy Jackson, Ann Jackson, Lydia Dale Gaters, and Lula Gee Gaters. 

Pallbearers for the service will be James Gaters, Dean Gaters, Lynn Jackson, Keith Jackson, Glenn Arthur and Danny Gaters. Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Gaters, Wayne Davis, Bobby McCage, and Andy Waller. 

The family has requested memorials be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38101-9908. All arrangements and services are under the direction of the Lea & Simmons Funeral Home in Brownsville, TN.
