Publish in a newspaper

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mauna Loa Ortiz, who passed away peacefully on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the age of 80.

Mauna was known for her strength, her "tell it like it is" attitude, and the deep love she gave to everyone around her. She believed in loyalty, hard work, and never missed a chance to cheer on her beloved Alabama Crimson Tide. Her kindness, wisdom, and spirited presence touched the lives of many, and her memory will be forever held in our hearts.

She is survived by her husband, Sergio; her daughters, Ronda, Veronica, and Malynda; and a slew of grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she adored and cherished. Mauna was preceded in death by her mother, Mabel, whom she missed deeply every day.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Laughlin Funeral Home, where loved ones will gather to celebrate her life and legacy.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ronda for her love, strength, and care in being by her mother's side during her final days.

Mauna will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

God's Garden

God looked around His garden

And found an empty place.

He then looked down upon the earth,

And saw your tired face.

He put His arms around you

And lifted you to rest.

God's garden must be beautiful,

He always takes the best.

He knew that you were suffering,

He knew you were in pain.

He knew you would never

Get well on earth again.

He saw the road was getting rough

And the hills were hard to climb,

So He closed your weary eyelids,

And whispered, "Peace be thine."

It broke our hearts to lose you,

But you didn't go alone-

For part of us went with you,

The day God called you home
