Maureen "Mo" Durando, was called home to God on February 19, 2024. After a long, hard fight and last few weeks spent with her closest family members, she died peacefully in her home, at the age of 83. Maureen was the youngest of 11 children and was born on February 1, 1941 to Joe & Anna Mildred Durando.
In her early years of life, she worked at the Hotel St. George in Brooklyn, NY, until she got married. After having her children, it wasn't long until she became a single mother. She began working day and night as a waitress for many years to support her 3 children. Customers and co-workers from different diners across Long Island, had a great love and respect for Maureen.
Maureen was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, niece, cousin, sister & friend. Maureen is survived by her son Richard, his wife Diane, her son Michael, his husband James, her daughter Cheryl, her husband Robert, along with her grandchildren, Breanna, her fiancé Anthony, Samantha, Aiden, Jaida, Jordan and great-grandchildren Mia, Jaymeson and Anthony, and of course, the many other lives she's touched along the way.
Maureen poured her whole life into her family and had an infinite love for children, not only her grandchildren but any child who crossed her path. Everyone would agree, she was a spit-fire with the most amazing sense of humor, who had a warm, comforting way about her and had a song and dance for any situation. She was the type of woman who gave herself and her time to help anyone in need. Maureen has left an imprint on the hearts of anyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing her and will be missed beyond measure.
"Your song has ended, but the melody of you lingers on."
