Maureen Larson, age 93, of East Grand Forks, MN and formerly of Fosston, passed away on Thursday, August 28th, at Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks, MN. An open house celebrating Maureen’s life will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 27th, in the fellowship hall of Hope Lutheran Church in Fosston. Arrangements are with Carlin Family Funeral Service of Fosston and messages of condolence may be shared at www.carlinfuneral.com.

Maureen Vera (Lubken) Larson was born on September 30, 1931, at home in rural Fosston, Minnesota to parents Henry “Hank” and Pearl (Barnes) Lubken. She lived on the farm north of Fosston until her family moved to Hastings, Nebraska where she attended elementary school. They returned to Fosston for her high school years, graduating from Fosston High School in 1948. Following high school, she worked at Gamble’s and Session’s Drug Store, both in Fosston.

Maureen was united in marriage to Roger O. Larson at Kingo Lutheran Church in Fosston. To this union, five children were born, Roxann, Terri, Pam, Kevin, and Kellee. Maureen and Roger lived and raised their family near Cross Lake and owned and operated a mink farm on the location. In addition to her farming duties and raising her family, Maureen had a ceramic craft shop located at the house. They did foster care and hosted foreign exchange students. They also welcomed all of their children’s friends into their home as if they were their own.

In 1973, they closed the mink farm and moved to Eagle Bend, Minnesota. Here, Maureen had a ceramic/stoneware shop and taught classes while Roger worked at the local bank. Roger passed away unexpectedly in 1990. After Roger’s death, she continued to live in Eagle Bend and worked at Morrie’s Fish House in Motley and Homecrest Furniture in Wadena, Minnesota.

In the early 90’s, Maureen relocated to Grand Forks, North Dakota. She worked as “House Mother” at a sorority at the University of North Dakota for about 10 years and also at the 3rd Street Clinic in Grand Forks for about 25 years until her retirement. For her dedicated work at the clinic, she was awarded the Timothy Hockenberry, MD award in 2010.

Maureen enjoyed many activities well into her 80's such as fishing, ceramics, UND hockey games, Vikings football, volunteering at the hospital. She loved helping and visiting family when she could.

Maureen passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Edgewood Vista in East Grand Forks at the age of 93 years.

Survivors include five children, Roxann (Ken) Hove of Fosston, Terri Andringa (Joe Stroot) of Euclid, MN, Pam (Todd) Empanger of Aitkin, MN, Kevin Larson of Cushing, WI, and Kellee Holehouse of Sharps Chapel, TN. 15 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jerry Maul of Hastings, NE; and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger; her parents, Hank and Pearl Lubken; brother, Robert and his wife Bonnie; sister, Priscilla Maul; grandson, Mike Hove; and son-in-law, Michael Holehouse.
