Maureen Patricia Lehane of Friendship, MD, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2024, at the age of 86, after a long struggle with dementia.
She was the devoted wife of John (Jack) P. Lehane of Friendship, MD, and a loving mother to Lorene Lyons (husband Jeff), Karen Hugel (late husband Frank), Sean Lehane (wife Kari), and Brendan Lehane (wife Megan). Maureen was the cherished grandmother ("Mamoe") to Ryan Brown, Sarah and John (Jack) Hugel, Patrick and Kaitlyn Lehane (mother Su Lehane), and Chloe, McCaffrey (Mac), and Connely (Coco) Lehane, as well as a proud great-grandmother to Ava Mae Brown and McKenzie. She is survived by many nieces and nephews who adored her and enjoyed her sense of humor.
Born on March 15, 1938, in Jamaica Plain, MA, Maureen was the beloved daughter of Margaret (O'Malley) and Matthew Joseph Curran, who both immigrated to the United States from Galway, Ireland. She was the adored sister to her late sisters Helen Bulman, Margaret (Peg) Duffin, and Anne Moloney.
Maureen worked for many years at Volkswagen of America. In her retirement, she dedicated her time to volunteer work in her community, serving Meals on Wheels, assisting at Windy Hill Elementary School-where she was honored as Volunteer of the Year-and supporting Rainbow Land Church Camp for many years.
A faithful member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Maureen was active as a member of the Ladies of Charity, the Sunshine Club, and the head cook for countless community dinners hosted at the church hall.
Maureen was also an exceptional gardener, cultivating a bountiful vegetable garden and vibrant flowers. She was an avid reader, devouring at least five books a week, and enjoyed solving the Washington Post crossword puzzle daily.
A private family viewing will be held, and a Mass in her honor will be celebrated at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Maureen's memory to the Ladies of Charity at St. Anthony's Catholic Church: St. Anthony's Ladies of Charity Calvert County P.O. Box 334 North Beach, MD 20714
