Obituary published on Legacy.com by Par-Troy Funeral Home from Nov. 27 to Dec. 3, 2025.
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Maureen Ann (nee-Griffin) Lenox, who left this world peacefully, surrounded by family on November 25th 2025. She lived with music in her heart, a quiet strength, a love of all things Ireland, and most of all, a strong devotion to her family. She was 85.
Born in Montclair to Gerald and Helen Griffin, Maureen was raised in Montclair and Glen Ridge. She was a proud graduate of Montclair Immaculate High School and Caldwell College with also having spent time studying at Notre Dame College of Maryland in Baltimore.
After moving to California for a short time, Maureen and her husband, John, settled in Whippany in 1964, where they remained for the rest of their lives.
Throughout her life, she shared her love of music by providing piano lessons for numerous students of all ages and leading the youth and young adult choir at Our Lady of Mercy Church - with her favorite mass always being Christmas Eve. She also spent many years coaching girls' youth softball and volunteering for the PTA, Band Parents and Girl Scouts in Whippany, serving as a short - and long -term substitute teacher and bedside tutor for Hanover Township schools and working as a nurse's aide at Crestwood Nursing Home.
But Maureen's most cherished role was being a mother and grandmother. She loved travelling, spending time with her friends at Bee Meadow Pool, cheering on her beloved Mets and Giants, and watching her children and grandchildren perform and achieve. She will be profoundly missed.
Maureen was predeceased by her husband, John and her daughter, Mary Louise.
Survivors include her daughters and their husbands: Mary Ellen and Richard Williams, Mary Beth Neely, Kathleen and Robert Grumka and Erin and William Galtieri; her son, John Lenox and his wife, Lori; her grandchildren: Brian Grumka and his wife, Sarah, Katherine and Kerry Grumka, Stephanie Neely, John and Jake Lenox; and her numerous grand pets.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Liturgy of Christian Burial to be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1st 2025 at Our Lady of Mercy R.C. Church, Whippany Road, Whippany. Interment: Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Visiting Hours are on Sunday from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at the Par-Troy Funeral Home, 95 Parsippany Road, Parsippany. (973)887-3235.
