Maureen Rigley Obituary

Maureen Ann Rigley, 88, passed away, Monday, June 10, 2024 at her home near Quemado, New Mexico surrounded by the things she loved most: family, friends, faith and music. She was born June 15, 1935 in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Joseph Francis Kelly and Irene Rose Deschenes. Maureen graduated from Mount Mercy School of Nursing/Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, worked as head registered nurse of labor and delivery at Mercy Hospital and ministered to rural migrant worker families as camp nurse at Marian House Family Apostolate in Waterport, New York. In 1970 Maureen and her husband, Joseph Rigley moved to Brawley, California where she worked as a registered nurse in labor and delivery and neonatal ICU at Pioneers Memorial Hospital, raised three sons in Westmorland, California and retired in Quemado, New Mexico. Maureen was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph. She is survived by her brother, Patrick Kelly, sister, Kathleen Steen, sons, Joseph Jr., Stephen P., David M. and grandchildren, Sinon Karol Rigley and Rosanna Esther Calderon. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Maureen's name to St. Vincent de Paul Society or to Sacred Heart Church in Quemado, New Mexico. Maureen was the nurse giving us nurses aid training on the job back in 1981 at Brawley Pioneers Hospital. She was great at what she did, she was a great person, I am deeply shocked at the news and hope she is resting in peace. My deepest condolences to all her family.

I was the pastor at Sacred Heart Parish in Quemado,NM,when Maureen and Joe moved there. They were a wonderful Vatican 2 couple, living and professing their faith with the hopes and dreams of Vatican 2. they brought a tremendous spirit to the parish and everybody like them right from the start. I consider them my friends and kept in touch with Maureen,right up to a few weeks before God called her.
I am from the Falls,and we loved to speak of Western New York.Maureen was always proud of her education by the Sisters of Mercy in South Buffalo. Mass will be offered to celebrate her arrival in God´s Kingdom.
