Maureen Theresa Strassle

1933 - 2022

Maureen Theresa Strassle, 88, went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2022. Maureen was born in Queens, New York to the late Charles and Marie Gordon on August 1, 1933.

Maureen loved staying active, whether as a nationally ranked olympic caliber swimmer in her younger years, on the tennis court or at the links. Maureen dedicated her life to serving others as a registered nurse and valued the need for constant learning to make the most of her abilities. She remained active as a health care provider well into later life, caring for the elderly and volunteering as a school nurse. A prolific letter writer, she always remembered birthdays and special events for family, friends and helpers throughout her life.

Other than her parents, Maureen is preceded in death by her loving and devoted husband of 59 years Arthur Lincoln Strassle; sister, Helen O'Grady and brother, Charles Gordon. She also cherished her many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends who left before her.

Maureen was deeply devoted to her Catholic faith and her family. Left to cherish her loving memory are her children, Ellen Giordano and husband James, Arthur Strassle, and Charles Strassle and wife Heather; grandchildren, John "Jack" and Adam Strassle; many more extended family members and friends. And her constant companion and loving dog Boo.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Apostle, 1968 Sandbridge Rd, Virginia Beach, VA 23456, on Thursday, July 28th 2022 at 2:00 pm. The burial will follow on Long Island, New York at St Charles Resurrection Cemetery, 2015 Wellwood Ave, Farmingdale, NY 11735, on Tuesday, August 2nd 2022 at 11:00 am.
