Obituary for Maurice Jean Guilbaud
March 10, 1933 – October 5, 2022
Mr. Maurice Jean Guilbaud of Brooklyn NY, departed this earthly life on Wednesday October 5, 2022, after a brief, but serious illness. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at St. Vincent Ferrer Church, 925 E 37th St, Brooklyn, NY 11210, with Rev. Fr. Antonius Peter Gopaul officiating. Maurice (Papi) Guilbaud was born in Cap-Haitian, Haiti on March 10, 1933, the son of Gerveus Morency and Amalia Guilbaud. After graduating from school, Papi Guilbaud became a bus driver and later a tradesman. Papi Guilbaud began working for Service national d'éradication de la malaria SNEM in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Later and after spending some time in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, Papi Guilbaud moved to Brooklyn, NY in March 1980
Papi Guilbaud worked at World Display Fixture Corporation as a service technician and shop foreman from July 1980 until his retirement. He was a beloved husband, father, a dear friend, and trusted colleague to many. Papi Guilbaud enjoyed cooking, chatting with friends, Latin music, (specifically Merengue and Salsa) as well as spending time with his family and friends, whenever possible.
Papi Guilbaud regularly attended St. Matthew Catholic Church, where he was a member of the choir. Through his faithful participation and involvement in choir-related activities at various Catholic churches in Brooklyn and Queens, Papi Guilbaud joined his brethren in a special pilgrimage trip to Rome and the Vatican in in the early 90's. Papi Guilbaud was extremely happy to have made the visit to Rome and always shared how that special journey strengthen his faith in God.
Papi Guilbaud was preceded in death by his oldest daughter Amalia (Maille) Maurice Guilbaud, his brother Roger Morency, and his sister Andre Collette. He is survived by three sons, Dr. Jean Maurice Guilbaud, Dr. Patrick Guilbaud (Christa), Bucknell Jean Guilbaud (Napha) and two daughters Michelle Napoleon and Eucher Immacula Guilbaud, their children and their spouses as well as his brother Lukner Morency, many great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces and cousins. Papi Guilbaud also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
