Thelma (Christa) Guilbaud was born on November 14, 1964, in Manhattan, New York, to Harry J. Mitchell and Madine (Davis) Mitchell. Christa attended the local schools both in New York and Jacksonville, Florida. Christa was the eldest of three children and spent her early years in NYC before relocating with her family to Jacksonville, Florida in 1978.

Christa graduated from Wolfson Senior High School and later earned degrees from the University of Virginia (B.A.), Virginia Tech (M.S.), and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Ed.D.). She married the love of her life, Patrick Guilbaud, in 1986, and together they raised two children: Christopher Remy Guilbaud and Catherine Patrice Guilbaud. Christa was a woman of deep faith, an educator, entrepreneur, mentor, and missionary supporter. She loved music, history, travel, old films, and family game nights.

Christa was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Madine Mitchell, and her sister, Risè Bonnet Mitchell-Fields.

Christa leaves behind her husband Patrick Guilbaud; children Christopher and Catherine; her brother Matthew James Mitchell (Carrie); nieces Keziah Kenon, Ivory Mae Emma Mitchell, and Isabella Risè Gizelle Mitchell; nephew Matthew James Mitchell Jr.; grandmother, Thelma King; and a host of cousins, friends, church family, and loved ones whose lives were richly impacted by her presence.

Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025, at First Baptist Church of Yulee, 86584 Pinewood Drive, Yulee. Florida 32097, and the interment will be 12:00 p.m., Monday, August 11, 2025, in Gethsemane Memorial Gardens, 800 Hammond Blvd., Jacksonville, Florida 32221.
