Neville Allison Obituary

Visit the Preddy Funeral Home - Gordonsville website to view the full obituary.
Neville Monroe (Roe) Allison Jr. passed from this world on October 15, 2025 at peace in the home he built, with warm sunshine passing through the October leaves. He was a devoted husband to wife Florence Dee Allison and dedicated father to his two sons, Neville Monroe Allison III and Thomas Brandon Allison. He is survived by grandchildren Neville Monroe Allison IV and Margaret Beverley Allison, siblings David Heyl, Stan Allison, Dorsey Comber, and Susan Allison Muston. He joins his parents Beverley Heyl Allison and Neville Monroe Allison Sr. and brother Gregory Allison in the afterlife.

Roe was born October 20, 1951 in Gordonsville, VA. He attended Grymes Memorial School in Orange VA, Christ Church School in Saluda, Virginia and the University of Virginia. It was at UVA where he met and courted Dee who was attending Mary Baldwin College. In 1979 Roe and Dee purchased property on Burnley Road in Barboursville VA, where, over the decades, he built a beautiful home, carved terraced gardens into the hillside, and established Reynard Florence Vineyard and Winery. Reynard Florence minted a reputation for artisanal wines, gorgeous views, personal service, and earned many awards including a Gold Medal in the 2024 Governor's Cup.

Allison Building and Renovation was a well known and respected construction contractor in the Charlottesville area, at one time employing over 25 carpenters and laborers. Allison Building's legacy continues on in the buildings on the Grounds of University of Virginia, historic downtown Charlottesville, Westminster Canterbury, as well as the estates of national celebrities in sports and entertainment.

Roe was an avid guitar player, mixing jazz, cajun, country, rockabilly, and soul. He could often be found on Sunday afternoons playing with other local musicians on the deck of Reynard Florence's tasting room. He invited all players to sit in and become one of the "Can't Hardly Play Boys", even if just for a few songs.

Roe was also a voracious reader, particularly of American History. He took every opportunity to tour the historic places he studied, from American Civil War Battlefields, Chateaus of the Loire Valley, European capital cities, and the Scottish Highlands.

Roe greeted old friends and made new ones with the same jovial wit and open heart. He lent his time and skills on projects at Grymes School, Four County Players, and traveled to Haiti on a humanitarian aid trip.

Above all, Roe's greatest devotion was to his family. He and Dee shared a partnership that spanned five decades-one built on mutual respect, shared dreams, and steadfast love. Together they turned every endeavor into a joint pursuit, from raising children, making travel plans, and running their vineyard. Roe delighted in surprising Dee with gifts that would make her smile, in planning improvements to the home they created together, and in supporting her own passions as fully as she supported his.

As a father, Roe was unwaveringly present. He invested deeply in his sons' educations, holding them accountable for their shortcomings and took quiet pride in their accomplishments. No matter the season or distance, he could always be found on the sidelines of a game or in the audience of a theater, offering steady encouragement and genuine joy in his children's success. His guidance was gentle but firm, his expectations high yet loving, and his faith in his family absolute.

We will all miss him a lot.

Service will be held Saturday October 25 at 10:00 AM at Christ Church in Gordonsville, VA. Please join the family for a reception at Fox Ridge and Reynard Florence Winery at
