Maurice Duane Weaver, 89, of Scott/Shipshewana, passed away at 5:45 pm, on Friday, September 6, 2024. He was born on July 11, 1935, in Sturgis Memorial Hospital, Sturgis, MI, to the late Wiler David and Mona Marjorie (Murray) Weaver. Maurice is survived by his children, daughter, Patrice (Mike) Marsh, and sons, Michael (Amy) Weaver and Stefan (Brandi) Weaver who all reside in Shipshewana; grandchildren, Jared Marsh of San Diego, CA, Logan Marsh of Shipshewana, Chelsea Mullins of Bristol, and Darrian Weaver of Shipshewana; step-grandchildren, Maci Viers, Paige Schwartz, and Peyton Schwartz all of Shipshewana; great-grandchildren, Harper and Hudson Viers of Shipshewana; sister, Sharon (Steve) Bowen of Shipshewana; sister-in-law, Shirley Weaver of Granger and many nieces and nephews. Maurice was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Larry and Franklin Weaver, and grandson, Brandon Weaver. After graduating from Scott School, Maurice attended Chicago Technical College in Chicago, IL. He enlisted in the army and after discharge, Maurice returned to his parents' home. He later moved to Juliet, IL, to work at Rieth and Reilly Construction, building the Chicago Express Way. After completion he returned to work with his father on the farm, milking cows, raising pigs and cattle and farming. He also built a mobile home park, put in septic systems, and had a thriving junkyard. In his retirement years, he resided in Florida, enjoying the everglades on his airboat, fishing, and traveling. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, September 17, at Miller-Stewart Funeral Home, 1003 South Main Street, Middlebury. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the 12:00 noon funeral service on Wednesday, September 18, also at the funeral home. Services will be conducted by Pastor Josh Watts. Burial will be in Sidener Cemetery, Howe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Scott United Methodist Church.
