Mavis Atkins-Ducille Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Circle of Life Funeral Home on Mar. 29, 2026.
Mavis Rose Atkins-Ducille, affectionately known as "May," of Monroe, New Jersey, passed away on March 21, 2026. Born in Kingston, Jamaica on January 11, 1933, Mavis was a beacon of compassion and resilience, whose unwavering spirit and generous nature touched everyone she met. Mavis embodied the verse from Proverbs 31:25, "She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future." Her courage and fortitude were evident throughout her life, whether it was in her tireless work as a home health aide, her entrepreneurial pursuits in the clothing industry, or her personal life filled with the love and laughter of her family.

Mavis was a loyal and loving mother, a selfless caregiver, and a spirited entrepreneur. She retired in 1999 from a rewarding career with Bayada, where her compassionate nature was recognized with multiple awards. Despite her professional achievements, Mavis constantly emphasized that what mattered most to her was her family. She devoted her life to her children, Annette Thomas, Donovan Ducille, Carol Presley, Trevor Ducille, Menia Ferren and Venesse Dorsey,

Annette Thomas (Dennis Thomas)

Donovan Ducille (Sherry Rich-Ducille)

Carol Presley (Anthony Kirby & Rodney Presley), Trevor Ducille (Pauline Drummond-Ducille), Menia Ferren (James Ferren), Venesse Dorsey (Darryl Dorsey). She had 22 grand-children, 43 great-grands and 12 great-great grand children all of whom survive her.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leroy Ducille, and her parents, Stanley and Etlin Atkins.

In her free time, Mavis found joy in drawing and crocheting, often crafting intricate pieces that reflected her creative spirit. Each stitch she made was a testament to her patient and loving nature. Mavis' legacy is not only in the beautiful pieces she created but also in the strength, love, and resilience she instilled in her children.

As we remember Mavis, let us hold close the verse from Isaiah 40:31, "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

We encourage those who knew and loved Mavis to share their memories and upload photos to her memorial page. Let us remember Mavis for who she was: a courageous, compassionate, resilient, and loving woman, who touched our lives in numerous ways.
