Mavis "Gerine" (Levell) Brown, 98, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2025 at Heritage Center.
Gerine was born in Crawford County, Indiana on March 25, 1927 to the late Luther and Dora (Jones) Levell. After retiring from Shane Uniform, Gerine was a cook at the Evansville Labor Temple. She was a wonderful cook and talented seamstress throughout her life. Gerine will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Gerine is survived by her sons, Warren Kell (Sharon) and Wendell Kell (Vicki); step-children, Kathy Butler and Ralph Brown Jr. (Gayle); step daughter-in-law, Joette Brown; sisters, Colleen Hughes and Doris Oglesby; grandchildren, Brock Kell, Brent Kell, Beth Miller (Anthony), Wendy Doninger (Mike), Amy Phillips (Greg) Christopher Darnell, Jessie McKeethen (Jen); step-grandchildren, Leo Brown Jr. and Tom Brown; several great-grandchildren; one great great-grandchild and by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Gerine was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph L. Brown; daughter, Wanda Clemons; son, Wayne Kell; step-son, Leo Brown; sisters, Evelyn Baker, Lavonne Poe; brothers, Ernest Levell, Lester Levell and Silven Levell; and great-grandchild, Ryne Phillips.
A celebration of Gerine's life will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 10:00 am until service time on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Browning Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the YWCA-Evansville, 118 Vine St., Evansville, IN 47708.
