Mavis Louise Forby, widow of Gerald Forby, of Greenville, went to be with her Lord on December 18, 2024.
Mavis was born on November 6, 1944, to her parents Sam and Alberta Simpson in Storm Lake, Iowa. Her dad was a farmer that rented farms in different places in Iowa and South Dakota, so the family moved several times. The last farm was at Fort Dodge, Iowa where Mavis graduated from Fort Dodge High School.
After graduation she attended Omaha Baptist Bible College, presently known as Faith Baptist Bible College and Seminary. She worked as a nurse's aide at a local hospital, and in housekeeping at the college to pay her way. She left after a year and a half due to finances.
When she helped a pastor's family move from Omaha to South Dakota, she went to visit the church of her childhood in Norbeck, South Dakota. It was there that she met Gerald Forby, her third-grade teacher, who was visiting his family and friends. Gerald and Mavis were married June 21, 1966, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They moved to California where Gerald taught in Christian schools. They moved from California to North Dakota, Oklahoma, Florida, and West Virginia. Mavis was the school librarian and the secretary for the Christian School and church while in West Virginia.
When her husband retired from teaching in 1993, they moved to
Greenville, South Carolina. There, she worked for Miracle Hill Ministries as a thrift store manager for 5 years. She then worked at Bob Jones University in the printing division as a machine operator for 16 years, a job she loved. She retired in 2016 and continued to live in her home on McCrary Street in Greenville.
It is her heart's desire that all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to know and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as their own personal savior and live a godly life that glorifies the Lord.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Lorinda Phillis, Nora Estes, and Sarah Rivera; grandchildren, Theodore and Levi Davis, Abigail, Lydia, Jonathan, Bethany, Heather, Kaylee, Charissa and Joseph Estes, and Samuel Rivera; great- grandchildren, Adeanna, Rosealynn, Holly, Kane, Colton, Allen, and Elliot; and five brothers and two sisters.
A visitation will be held Saturday, January 4, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Agnew Road Baptist Church followed by the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.
