Mavis J. (nee Wells) Hrach, age 99, passed away Monday. August 25, 2025.
Devoted wife of 30 years of the late August F. Hrach, Jr.; cherished mother of Geoffrey (Charlotte), Kathleen Toth (Richard) and Patricia Hileman (Richard); beloved grandmother of Richard, Darlene Peracchio (deceased) (Tom), Cheryl Hrach (deceased), Jennifer Raspe (Chris), Nicholas Kopcho, Christine Kopcho (deceased), Kelly French (Mike), Becky Nisius (Allen), and step-grandmother of Steve Toth (Traci) and Jim Toth (Melissa); loving great-grandmother of Nicholette (Jesse), Cheryl, Michael (Lindsay), Katie, Geoffrey, Alex, Teagan, Madelyn, Emilia, Nathan, Allison, and step-great-grandmother of Lauren (Dominic), Megan (Christopher), Joshua, Ben, Zach and Morgan; great-great-grandmother of Luciano and step- great-great grandmother of Nico; dearest sister of Ronald Wells (Iris, deceased); and dear aunt to many nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Lizzie (nee Wright) Wells, five brothers and four sisters.
Throughout the course of her career, she had worked as both a bookkeeper and office manager for several companies in the area.
Mavis was a woman who loved life and kept active in many ways. Throughout her life she enjoyed playing Bingo and golfing. She also excelled at bowling, for which she was named in the Keggler, a section in the former Cleveland Press newspaper, for her performance in one particular bowling series. She also took pride in caring for her home and yard, only unhappily giving up mowing the lawn a few years ago. She was well known among family and friends as an excellent cook and an exceptional baker. Her Christmas cookies were eagerly anticipated each year and her spaghetti sauce was unmatched!
She enjoyed some quieter pursuits as well like jigsaw puzzles. She was also an avid reader and while she was particularly fond of historical fiction, she couldn't resist a good romance, especially the Harlequin novels. She also liked to watch television, especially in her later years, and while she laughed her way through Seinfeld episodes, she was equally entranced by nature shows, specifically ones that captured the rugged wilderness and wildlife of Alaska.
Mavis was also rather adventurous and loved to travel with family and her friends! While she loved the warm climates and the oceans of Florida and the Bahamas, she also liked visiting places like Vermont and journeying back to England, where she was born and raised. One of her favorite places though, was Las Vegas, where she indulged her love of casinos and playing the slots! However, the place that brought her the most peace and serenity was sitting near the water. Whether the ocean or just a simple lakeside sitting with her daughter, she found a unique sense of tranquility and happiness there, especially in recent years.
She also had a love and appreciation for music. She enjoyed the songs of performers like Barbra Streisand and Chris Botti, as well as Broadway tunes, but piano music held a special place in her heart, so much so, that despite being in her 80's she taught herself to play the piano using only the books and keyboard her family bought for her.
Mavis was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and even a great-great grandmother, and the legacy she leaves her family is one of kindness, generosity, and a heart that rarely knew anger but instead shown with a simple sweetness in everything she did and how she treated everyone she met. Even to her last days, she brought joy and laughter to all those who knew her, and it is that beautiful spirit that will be missed most of all!
