In Loving Memory of Mavis E. Mohan

March 8, 1939 – July 17, 2025

With deep sorrow and abiding gratitude, the family of Mavis E. Mohan announces her peaceful transition on July 17, 2025, at the Vitas Healthcare Inpatient Hospice Unit in Coral Springs, Florida. She was 86 years old.

Born in Jamaica to the late Charles Perry and Marian McDonald, Mavis lived a life characterized by faith, compassion, and unwavering devotion to those around her. Her journey was one of profound service-both in her vocation as a nursing assistant and in her role as matriarch, nurturer, and guiding light to her family and community.

A Life of Service and Kindness

Mavis cared for others with gentle hands and a tender heart. Her calm strength and unwavering grace left indelible marks on the lives she touched. Whether offering comfort to patients or wisdom to loved ones, she embodied the virtues of resilience, empathy, and dignity.

Her Loving Legacy

Mavis is survived by her nine beloved children: Elvenia Johnson, Velma Mohan, Jennifer Stevenson, Norma Mohan, Janet Marshon, Jennifer Hamilton, Marvalyn Golaub, Fitzroy Mohan, and Sandra Mohan.

She also leaves behind a cherished lineage of 23 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one greatest-grandchild. She also leaves behind her nieces and nephews, all a reflection of her enduring love and the strength of her legacy.

Final Arrangements

Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, Maryland, with arrangements entrusted to Avent Funeral Home in Lanham, Maryland.

A Life Forever Remembered

Mavis will be remembered not just for what she gave-but for who she was: a pillar of strength, a beacon of love, and a quiet force of nature who lifted others through grace and kindness. Her spirit lives on in the memories we hold and the lives she shaped with warmth and purpose.

" If yuh waan walk good, ask God fi show yuh de path." -Jamaican Proverb

A reminder that true wisdom comes not from status or pride, but from a humble heart seeking divine guidance-just as Mavis did throughout her life.
