Mavis L. Reecer was born July 8, 1935, to D.D. and Hattie Tate at Aiken in Floyd County. She was raised on family farms at Aiken and Sandhill, graduating from Lockney High School in 1953. She married Donald Reecer on July 1, 1955. She was then employed by Southwestern Bell and AT&T in Lockney and Plainview for 29 years, taking early retirement in 1985. After "retirement," she started a wallpaper business with friend and former co-worker Linda Adkins, which she operated until she and Donald moved to Alto in 1991.

Mrs. Reecer enjoyed painting, sewing, square-dancing and playing bridge, and she was renowned for her baking skills. She also volunteered for several years at Christian Services in Ruidoso. She was a member of the Main Street Church of Christ in Lockney and the Mountain View Church of Christ in Alto.

She was preceded in death by her husband on December 11, 2017; her parents; her brothers, Kenneth and Percy Tate; and her sister, Virginia Gann.

Survivors include her daughter, Julie Reecer of Alto; son Tim Reecer of Ruidoso; son Rich Reecer of Tucson, Ariz., and his wife, Debbi; grandson Matt Reecer of Canyon; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Maggie.
