Max Leroy Burdick Jr.

 

Max Leroy Burdick Jr, 71, of Sandy, Utah, passed away on Friday, March 24, 2023, after suffering a heart attack. He spent his last moments on earth with his Family by his side singing The Beatles to him. Max had a lifelong love of music. He made sure his family always knew that he was the 5th member of The Beatles, and he loved to play his guitar up until the very end of his life. 

Max was born on April 28, 1951, in Pocatello, Idaho to Max Leroy Sr. and Dona Lou Connell Burdick. He grew up in Holladay, Utah and graduated from Olympus High School. He moved to Fallbrook, California where he founded, built, and operated KAVO Radio Station. 

Max met his wife, Cheri Miller, in California. He told her that she needed some adventure in her life and the adventures never stopped. He loved to fly fish, spend time at the cabin he built with his grandpa, competed in marathons and triathlons, scuba-dived, skied both on water and snow, rode motocross, and played tennis and golf. 

Max moved back to Utah and worked as a National Sales Manager for a local news station. He then went on to work for The Osmond Family and Children’s Miracle Network where he started his passion for serving others in need. Max then went on to start his own business, Burdick & Associates Real Estate, and became the Director of the Wasatch Front Regional MLS.

Max was also an accomplished and respected politician, and he was a true civil servant throughout his life. He was appointed to the Sandy City Planning Commission and was named Sandy City Citizen of the year in 1996. Max was elected to the Salt Lake County Council and was appointed as Board Chairman for the Utah Performing Arts Center Agency. Out of the countlessboards and committees he served on, he was most proud of his recent work to build the Eccles Theater in downtown Salt Lake City. Max truly loved serving his community and was particularly fond of the arts. 

Max was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He loved his faith and held it close to his heart. Max loved his family and pets dearly and was loved by so many others. Max had a special bond with his two grandkids, Maxwell and Lexi, as their “Awpa.” He taught them both how to play guitar, golf, and they shared a love of art. He often left hidden notes, drawings, and money for them to find. Nobody will ever be able to take his place. 

Max is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Natalie, and his grandchild, Casey. He is survived by his wife, Cheri; sisters, Julie Ann (husband, Randy) Moffat, and Jane Ann (husband, John) Day; his children, Teresa, Angie (partner, Beck), Emily Riser, and Michael (partner, Ryan); hisgrandchildren, Gregory, Brittany, Maddie, Maxwell, and Lexi and his dog, Penny.  

Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2675 Mt Jordan Rd, Sandy, UT 84092 on Saturday April 1, 2023. There will be a viewing at 10:30am followed by services at 12:00pm.
