Max Loren Elder, 84, passed away at home, surrounded by his loving children and grandchildren, on October 26, 2025.

Max was born on November 25, 1940 in Warsaw, Indiana to Howard and Florence (Slusher) Elder. On October 28, 1961, he was united in marriage to Violet Mae “Maize” Steele. They were blessed with four sons, ten grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren and many bonus grandchildren.

Max worked at Weatherhead/Dana in Syracuse, where he retired after 35 years of continued service. He was a lifetime member of the Pierceton American Legion Post #258. He enjoyed playing on a shuffleboard and pool league with his sons and grandson. He was a diehard Bears fan. Back in the day, he loved racing stock cars.

On any given day you would find Max in the garage with his sons and grandsons working on project, or inside baking and watching scary movies with his granddaughters. His greatest joy in life was his children and grandchildren. He loved his daily visits and rides on the golf cart.

Max will be remembered by his children Max (Lisa) Elder, Mike Elder, Tony (Nicole) Elder, and son Mitch who passed in 2023, his 10 grandchildren; Sara Elder, Max (Sidney) Elder, Tyler (Brittni) Elder, Trent Elder, Dylan Marshall, Garrett Elder, Cassidy Elder, Hailey Elder, Jesse Elder, and Julie Elder, as well as eleven great grandchildren. Also remembering Max are his brothers Howard, Jim, Glen and his sister Carol.

He was preceded in death by his wonderful wife Maize and his son Mitch.
