Max Markovitz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Dodds Dumanois Funeral Home and Cremation Center - Flint on Jan. 18, 2026.
Max Markovitz, age 96, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026. Born on October 2, 1929, Max lived a life defined by extraordinary resilience, perseverance, and compassion.

A Holocaust survivor, Max endured unimaginable loss at a very young age, having everything taken from him during World War II. Despite these hardships and with little to no support, he rebuilt his life from the rubble of Czechoslovakia. After the war, he immigrated to England, where he studied to become an electrical engineer. He later moved to Michigan, where through dedication and hard work he built a successful electronics shop and established a meaningful life for himself and his family.

Despite the trauma he carried, Max remained remarkably positive, kind, caring, patient, and generous. He had a deep love for animals, history, and-above all-his family. In retirement, Max devoted much of his time to retelling his story, educating younger generations about the atrocities of World War II and the importance of remembrance, understanding, and humanity.

Max was a beloved husband to Sharron Markovitz; loving brother to Zita Weber; and devoted father to Marie Markovitz, Paul Markovitz, and Alan Markovitz. He was also a cherished stepfather to Jilan Plevnik, John Skrzycki, Kathy Crook, and Gary Skrzycki. He took great pride in his grandchildren: Zach Plevnik, Dylan Plevnik, Tiffany Markovitz, Aaron Markovitz, Jack Crook, Tim Crook, Jack Skrzycki, Carly Skrzycki, Noah Skrzycki, Michael Skrzycki, Haleigh Booth, and Maria Clark.

Max spent his later years in Jupiter, Florida, where his warmth and wisdom continued to touch those around him. His life stands as a testament to strength, hope, and the enduring power of kindness.

Services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Ottawa Cemetery,

6180 Dixie Highway, Clarkston, Michigan 48346.

Viewing will begin at 10:30 a.m., the service will begin at 1:30 p.m., and burial will follow at 2:30 p.m.

Max Markovitz's legacy will live on through the many lives he touched and the stories he so bravely shared. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
