SUTTON – December 4th - It’s with great sadness we announce the passing of Maxima Rojas, 94, surrounded by her loving family, a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and great aunt known for her warm smile, positive attitude, and gentle loving touch.

Maxima leaves family in Peru, Spain, Germany, and here in the United States, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, parents, sisters, and brothers.

Maxima was born in a small village located in the Andes Mountains in Chilcas, Ayacucho, Peru. Not afforded the opportunity of a formal education, she was a self-taught, go getter who gained wisdom through life’s experiences. In her younger years she raised 2 daughters on her own with perseverance, conviction, and the belief that anything was possible if you put your mind to it. She spoke Spanish and Quechua the ancient language of the Incas. Realizing that she couldn’t give her daughters the life they deserved in the Andes, she moved to Lima, later marrying her husband, a widower with 6 children that she loved and raised as if they were her own.

Prior to marrying she was a housekeeper and she didn’t have any hobbies. She dedicated her life to supporting her mother, raising her family, and taking care of everyone around her. Always the first one up in the morning and always the last one to go to bed. She did this happily and never complained. Seven years ago, after becoming a widow, she moved to the United States to live with her daughter, son-in law, and grandchildren. Four years ago, she became a United States citizen.

Through, these 7 years while battling Parkinsons she never complained and enjoyed spending time with her great grandchildren and listening to Peruvian music from the Andes Mountains. As her disease progressed and her dependency on others increased, she always stayed positive, refusing to give up, and fought with every ounce of her being. She has left behind a tremendous hole in the hearts of our family that will never be filled, but we will move on with persistence, positivity, self-worth, and love to carry on her legacy.

Family and friends will remember Maxima’s life by gathering for a time of visitation on Friday, Dec. 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service at 6 p.m. in Mulhane Home for Funerals, 45 N. Main Street, Millbury MA 01527.
