Maxine Kershaw Barney

Maxine Kershaw Barney, age 87, passed away peacefully in her home July 27, 2023, in Cedar City, UT. Born to Cyril and Maxine (Young) Kershaw March 6, 1936, in Salt Lake City, UT.
She was the eldest child and loved taking on the role of watching over her 3 younger siblings. She attended South High School in Salt Lake City, UT and went on to serve a LDS mission in Finland. After her release from her mission her grandmother met her in England, and they traveled through Europe together. Upon returning home she met and married Delbert Barney. They were blessed with a daughter Melinda and experienced the loss of their stillborn son Bret. Maxine took it upon herself to not become discouraged that she wouldn't have a house full of children and filled her time serving in her favorite calling as a primary teacher. When her grandson Dylan was born, she was filled with joy and would rush home from work to pick him up to go fishing at the community ponds around her home. She welcomed four more grandchildren into her life with Brandon, RJ, Porsche, and Carl and loved to watch them play outside her bedroom window.
She is preceded in death by her parents Cyril and Maxine Kershaw, brother Larry Kershaw, and son Bret Lee Barney. She is survived by her husband Delbert Barney; sister Lucille Burgess; brother Jay Kershaw; daughter Melinda (Chris) Day; grandson Dylan (McKenna) Hotchkiss; grandsons Brandon, RJ, and Carl Day; granddaughter Porsche Day; great-grandson Remington Hotchkiss. She will be missed by many others.
A private graveside service will be held in her honor at her request. Many thanks go out to Zion's Way Hospice for their care for her during her final days. Heartlight Funeral Services will be directing the service and offering online condolences at www.heartlightafs.com.
