Maxine Ferguson passed away quietly in
Parker, Colorado on
November 30, 2025, at the age of 97. She was born November 16, 1928 in
Atchison County, Kansas. She married Philip Leonard Ferguson in
Mulvane, Kansas on June 5, 1948. They were married 76 years at the time
of Philip's passing on May 18, 2024. Philip was 99.
Maxine was a resident of the Pinery in Parker since 1978 until moving
into an assisted living facility in 2024. She was a member of The Daughters
of the American Revolution, local chapter Smoky Hill Trail; First United
Methodist Church of Castle Rock; an active and talented golfer at the
Pinery Country Club for many years; and closely followed the stock market
with her various investments.
Maxine was the daughter of Alma Carlyle McClanahan and Dorothy
Eva Witt. Maxine is preceeded in death by her siblings Lyle (wife Katie)
(children Jeff, Jon all deceased, and Jim (James); Ed (wife Shirley both
deceased, and children Barbara and Marcia) and Lana (Mrs Bob Barnes
both deceased, and children Lisa and Patsy).
She was an avid genealogist and wrote many letters to distant relatives
over her adult life to gather information on the McClanahan, Ashcraft and
Hardesty lines. She also published a volume of family history titled
"McNotes" in 1995 and emailed to many relatives.
Maxine is survived by her daughter Kathy Fonda (Mrs. David) of
Parker, CO and grandchildren Tim Swanson of Englewood, CO; Laura Fitts
of Colorado Springs, CO; Melissa Gracik of Ft. Collins, CO; David Fonda Jr
of Laramie, WY. Also, her son Mark Allen Ferguson (wife Jayne) of
Merrimac, MA and grandchildren Nicholas Ferguson of Denver ; Mark
Brandon Ferguson; and stepdaughter Jennifer Pugliese of Derry, NH. A son, Steven
Michael Ferguson (wife Maureen) of Zionsville, IN precedes her in death
and has daughters Haley Ferguson and Lauren Ferguson, of Zionsville, IN.
Maxine also has 9 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews
keeping in touch with them often.
Education was a high priority to Maxine and she did pay for college textbooks for any of her grandchildren if they attended college. This was one of her legacies and her family loves to mention this often.
She graduated from Mulvane High School in 1946 earning
Salutatorian honors. She attended Casper Community College, Arapahoe
Community College and received her BS degree from the School of
Business at University of Colorado with an Accounting major.
Maxine's husband Philip was a petroleum geologist and through his
jobs, lived in Wichita and
Hutchinson, KS; Casper, Sheridan, Buffalo and
Lusk, WY;
Scottsbluff, NE; Denver, Littleton and
Parker, CO.
A memorial service for Maxine will be held at the First United Methodist
Church of Castle Rock, CO on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
A service with burial will be held on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 1:00 at
the Smith Family Mortuaries and the Mulvane Cemetery in
Mulvane, KS.
Donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Castle
Rock in appreciation of the hours of service and friendship shown to
Maxine by the Stephens Ministry at the church.
