Maxine Sharon Ligman

October 26, 1938 – January 14, 2026

Maxine Sharon Ligman, 87, of Proctor, MN, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on January 14, 2026, at St. Luke's Hospital.

Maxine was born on October 26, 1938, in Duluth, MN, the daughter of Francis and Opal Hill. She graduated from Northwestern High School in 1956, and married Terrence Ligman on August 3, 1956.

Throughout her life, Maxine was a hard worker and a friendly presence in the local community. She spent many years serving others through her work at Roth's dept store, Lignell Pharmacy, Northwest Outlet, and her adventures with Christmas Around the World.

She found her greatest joy in the simple, meaningful aspects of life like getting her hair done weekly! She was an avid reader and shared a bond of true kinship with her neighbor, Lorraine, who was like a sister to her. Maxine also had a deep and compassionate love for animals, particularly her beloved cats, who were her constant companions.

Above all, Maxine's legacy is her family. She took immense pride in watching her family grow through five generations.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Opal Hill, and her brother, Marlow Hill.

She is survived by: Kathy (Bryan) Beede, Rose Ligman, and Joe (Alicia) Ligman. A wonderful host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, all of whom she loved dearly!

Family and friends are invited to gather to honor Maxine's life on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Cremation Society of Minnesota. 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, MN 55807

Visitation: 11:00 AM. Service: 12:00 PM (Noon) Luncheon: A time of food and fellowship will follow the service.

To Kathy, Rose and Joe, I am so sad to hear of dear Maxine's passing. Maxine was my friend and always so kind to me. I loved her soft voice. I have so many great memories of my childhood having the Ligmans for my next door neighbors. We had such good times. There is one memory I have that I'm laughing about as I write this but it would not be in good taste to share it. Trust me! I was so happy when Maxine joined Facebook and we were able to stay in touch. I know that Maxine loved Jesus and they are together but I can't help having tears in my eyes that I won't be hearing from her anymore. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I wish I were there to give you two girls a hug and a handshake to Joe. Rest in peace my dear friend Maxine. I love you!!! Very Truly, Gary Oconnell
