Maxine "Mickey" Louise Kappler, age 88, of Crossville, TN, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society.
Mickey, born on January 12, 1937, in Red Wing, MN, was the daughter of Melvin Eugene Everett "Gucca" Bennett and Rosella Alvina (Hines) Bennett, wife of Robert (Bob) Kappler, mother, aunt, grandmother, singer, great cook, and volunteer. Mickey and Bob lived in Oregon, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Tennessee in their nearly 50 years of marriage.
Mickey enjoyed gardening – especially tomatoes, green beans, cucumbers, and geraniums – and worked as a swim instructor, church secretary, and medical accountant. She also volunteered as a girl scout leader, served as the funeral food organizer for many years at St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Amery, Wisconsin, and was unbelievably fast at the net in doubles tennis. She was quick to laugh and appreciated the 5 o’clock happy hour with friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Kay (Lee) Jacobsen and Barbara (Tonu) Mikk; sons, David Kappler and Steve (Karen) Kappler; grandchildren, Andrew (Allison) Kappler, Jeremiah (Paige) Kappler, Stephanie (D.C.) Cooper, Abby (David) Crema, Dan Kappler, Elizabeth Kappler, Sam Kappler, Sarah Kappler, Kenny Jacobsen, Brittany (Jesse) Dittman, Annika Mikk and Oliver Mikk; and 9 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mickey is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wayne Kappler; and sisters, Jean Ness and Shirley Brown.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 6 at 10:00 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Fairfield Glade followed by a lite lunch. A memorial celebration will take place on Saturday, July 26 from 4 -7:00 pm in Amery, Wisconsin.
