On Tuesday May 20, 2025, at her home in Bedford, Virginia, God called Maxine Olivia Selden home.

"Libby" (as she was affectionately known by her family) was born on April 30, 1942 in Bedford, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her mother, Mabel Woolfolk Burrell, stepfather Adolphus Burrell, and husband, Harold Robert Selden "Bob".

Libby was educated in the Bedford County School System attending Goode Elementary School and Susie Gibson High School. Until her retirement, Libby was employed with the Rubatex Cooperation in Bedford, Virginia.

At an early age, Libby joined Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Goode, Virginia. Libby enjoyed cooking and gardening (both flowers and vegetables.) Before her health began to fail her, she also enjoyed canning and freezing fresh garden vegetables. Also, a little-known tidbit, Libby was a hunter as well. She actually hunted wild turkeys with a bow and arrow!

There are a plethora of family members left to cherish her memories. Libby's sister Iris "Nita" Nash (James) and two devoted daughters Shelby Selden Read and Robin Selden Braxton (Steve). Three granddaughters, Tessia Braxton Smith (Antione), Chelsey Braxton King (Chancey Jr.) and Amber Read Blair. A devoted nephew, Barry Thomasson and special cousins, Purcell Bryant (Mary), faithful visitors, Paul Royal (Donna) and Jack Turner to name a few.

Libby was also blessed with five adorable great-grandchildren, Micah Smith, Lucas Smith, Annalise Blair, Carson King, and Cole King. In addition to her daughters, sister, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Libby leaves a host of family members, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends to cherish her memory.

She will be sincerely missed by those who knew and loved her.
