Maxine was born in Jones County to Lloyd Rich and Ruth Benningfield Rich on July 11, 1933. She grew up in a family centered around farming. Later the family moved into Abilene, Texas. While attending North Park School she met the young man Joe "Tuffy" Stevens who would become her husband on September 18, 1949. Although young, she was well taught in caring for their home and was an excellent cook. They traveled to several places, "Tuffy" working at different jobs. She was always willing to follow her husband and support him in any adventure, often working beside him, but always keeping her home clean and cooking for her young husband when his work took him away from home to the oil fields. She would drive many miles to deliver him hot homemade meals always with sweet cakes and her specialty, fried pies. Their dream to have children was fulfilled when they were able to adopt their son Joe Mack and one year later their daughter Becky Renee.
Maxine and Tuffy were members of the Church of Christ. They soon settled in Hodges in Jones County to raise their children in a rural area. Maxine was proud to be a stay-at-home mom until the children were in high school. After that she worked several jobs including Timex, a watch factory, for many years and Walmart stores. She was promoted many times due to her excellent work ethics. Their blessings continued as their children married and blessed them with several grandchildren.
Maxine was preceded in death by her beloved husband Joe "Tuffy" and her son Joe Mack. Also, her parents Lloyd James Rich and Ruth Elma Benningfield Rich, an infant brother born before Maxine, another brother, James Luther and a sister Magora Sue and a sister-in-law, Jane Rich.
Maxine is survived by her daughter Becky Renee and husband Craig Young. her daughter-in-law Tara Stevens, a sister-in-law Iva Townzen. Grandchildren; Rafe Edmond Stevens, Emily Grace Stevens, Chris Young and wife Diane, Tanner Young and wife Kendra, Whitney Lucas, Brenna Guerra and husband Colton and seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
