May Dell Blaney, formerly Frank was born on January 15, 1941, in Washington, LA, to the parentage of Dallas and Elzina Frank and was the fourth of ten children. The family moved from Washington, LA, to Mossville, LA, where May would go on to graduate from Mossville High in 1960 and attend McNeese State University, majoring in Education.
It was here that she met the love of her life, David L. Blaney and the two were wed on March 9, 1963, and remained married 57 years until the time of David's passing. The two were deeply devoted to one another and May traveled with him to his various duty stations throughout his military service. Upon their return to the Lake Charles area, May continued her studies at McNeese, earning both a Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Education. She would go on to teach at several schools in SWLA, eventually retiring at SJ Welsh Middle School with CPSB in 1996.
She was an active and dedicated member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church (formerly) and most recently True Light Missionary Baptist Church, the Lake Charles Citywide Ushers Association, the New Light Missionary Baptist Association and the LA Home & Foreign Mission Baptist State Convention in Youth Ministry, Usher's Auxiliary and Women's Mission Auxiliary. She often held the position of a leader, but she considered herself a servant and took her service seriously. She was a powerful speaker and a mentor to many.
May loved family and looked forward to hosting family gatherings, particularly during the holidays. She was the world's best pecan candy maker this side of Heaven and a generous and gracious host whose doors were always open.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dallas and Elzina Frank; her husband of 57 years, David L. Blaney; siblings, Hilman Frank, Clinton Frank, Renell Blackmon, Letell Frank and May Bell Hebert.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Steven (Keisha) Blaney of Lake Charles, LA and David (Carlis) Blaney of Belle Chasse, LA; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie Foreman, Jillian Blaney, Megan Blaney, Erin Blaney, Eriq Blaney, Cyanne' Joseph, Mikayla Conners-Casey, Michael Conners, Bryana Richard, Kiana Richard, Stanley Goldsby and Christopher Hamilton; four great grandchildren, Kaidence Foreman, Ezra Prejean, Jayla Casey-Collins and Royce Hilliard; four siblings, Mary Littlejohn, Rose (James) Green, Stafford (Velma) Frank and Peggy Frank-Anthony and a host of nieces, nephews, Godchildren, family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 9:00 a.m., and funeral service at 11:00 a.m., at True Light Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Combre Memorial Park under the direction of King's Funeral Home.
