May Dell Hinze Kuhlmann, 85, passed away November 16,2025 at Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born September 29, 1940 in the Kenney Community of Austin County, Texas to Herbert C and Almeida Rosebaum Hinze. May Dell was baptized May 18, 1941 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Bellville, Texas and was confirmed March 25, 1956 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Brenham by the Rev. Theodore R. Streng. Her Confirmation verse was 1 John 5:14 - "And this is the confidence which we have in him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us." She attended Washington County Public School and Brenham Independent School District.
On September 18, 1960 she was married to Harold Roger Kuhlmann at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Brenham by the Rev. Streng. They were members of the 290 Dance Club for many years and enjoyed going dancing. Harold preceded her in death on September 10, 2005. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem. May Dell was employed at Weiner's Department Store for 32 years and Brenham Independent School District Children Nutrition Department for 19 years. She was known for her King Ranch Chicken, macaroni salad, peanut butter crunch, canned pickles and tomatoes and was always kind and gentle.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Tricia Kuhlmann; granddaughter and husband, Chelsea and Michael Prestera who fondly called her Meme; sister-in-law Margaret Tiemann; brother-in-law Edward Schulte; nieces and nephews, Rudy and Linda Tiemann, Ray and Debbie Tiemann, Ralph and Debbie Tiemann, Jerry and Jeanelle Moreno, Roger and Debbie Gaskamp, Glenn and Cindy Flentge, Kevin and Beverly Schulte and Howard Jr. and Janet Kuhlmann. Also surviving are numerous great-nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, sister Ruth Schulte, sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Floyd Hahn, brother in-law Howard Kuhlmann, sister-in-law, Doris Kuhlmann Daniels, brother-in-law Melvin Tiemann and niece Susan Kuhlmann.
Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, November 19, 2025 from 4-6 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.
Funeral services will be Thursday, November 20, 2025 at 10 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem with Pastor Mark Neumann officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Lea Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rudy Tiemann, Ray Tiemann, Ralph Tiemann, Jerry Moreno, Glenn Flentge, Kevin Schulte, Brent Gaskamp and Roger Gaskamp.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the staffs of Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Hospice Brazos Valley. Your kindness and compassion will not be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given St. James Lutheran Church of New Wehdem and Hospice Brazos Valley.
