Gary Wayne Buro, 70, of Brenham passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025.
Born in Brenham, Texas on April 17,1955 to Lenord and Allyne (Rodenbeck) Buro, Gary spent his entire life as part of the Washington County community. Gary was baptized June 5, 1955 and confirmed March 30, 1969 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gay Hill. During his childhood, Gary loved to hunt and fish and spend time outdoors on the family farm, but he most cherished his time playing baseball for Washington County Little League. He often loved to reminisce on his travels with Washington County Little League and the many memories made playing slow pitch softball with friends. Gary attended Mound Hill schools during his early elementary years and later graduated from Brenham High School, class of 1973, where he lettered in track and field. After high school, Gary attended Blinn College where he earned his Associate's degree before joining the workforce.
Like many residents of Washington County, Gary worked at Brentex Mills, Blue Bell Creameries, and Sealy Mattress until he found his long-lasting career in the beer business working at Mike Hopkins Distribution for 43 years. With territories ranging from Washington, Lee, Grimes and Waller counties, Gary made a lasting impact and countless friendships along the way. For several years, many of Gary's weekends were also spent working at Design II catering, where even more friendships were made. His genuineness, loyalty, and kindness made him a friend to all who knew him.
Although proud of his work, Gary's greatest joy came from being a devoted husband, father, and-his most cherished title-Papa. On July 21, 1979, Gary married the love of his life, Tammy Monic Gummelt. They spent the next 46 years building a beautiful life together with their three children: Kelci, Natalie, and Michael.
The Buro family attended First United Methodist Church, where Gary faithfully served as an usher at the early service every Sunday. He was also known for serving others through his gift for barbequing. "GB's Barbeque" and his signature sauce were loved and requested by many over the years. His happiest moments were spent with his family gathered around the table enjoying his home-cooked meals and playing a game of pitch. In recent years, this joy extended to include his children, their spouses, and his seven grandchildren. Attending their activities and events brought him tremendous happiness, and he looked forward to recovering from his recent hip replacement so he could comfortably continue supporting the people he loved.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Lenord and Allyne (Rodenbeck) Buro; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Norris and Virginia (Vollert) Gummelt; brother-in-law, Gary Gummelt; and his grandparents, uncles, and aunts.
He is survived by his wife, Tammy (Gummelt) Buro; daughter, Kelci (Mike) Adams of Mount Vernon; daughter, Natalie (Jason) Meekins of Rosenberg; son, Michael (Gracie) Buro of San Antonio; and his beloved grandchildren, Hudson, Nolan, and Emry Adams; Grady and Elliott Meekins; and Henry (Hank) and Sam Buro. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Connie (Brian) Smith of Kyle.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 20, at Brenham Memorial Chapel from 9:00 AM–7:00 PM, with the family present from 5:00–7:00 PM. A funeral service will take place Saturday, November 22, at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's Lutheran Church of Gay Hill, with Pastor Skip Stutts officiating.
Honorary pallbearers are James Gaskamp, Randy Gaskamp, Desi Leal, Jerry Nobles, Leroy Nobles, Glenn Reimer, Ryan Rodenbeck, Spencer Schneider, Brian Smith, and the MHD Family.
