May Jorgensen

CASTLE DALE- Ida May Behunin Jorgensen, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Orem, Utah surrounded by her loving family. She was 88 years old.

May was born on February 19, 1937, in Hiawatha, Utah to Cecil Henry Behunin and Ida Wild Behunin joining her brother, Dale and sister, Mary Lou. May was three years old when her father died from a mining accident and the family moved to Ferron, Utah, where she grew up. She attended Elementary and Middle School in Ferron. South Emery High School was also in Ferron and there she met the love of her life, Bill Jorgensen.

They were married in the Manti Temple on June 14, 1954, and spent 71 wonderful years together. They were blessed with six wonderful children, Peggy, Julie, Jackie, Kent, Annette, and Steven. While the children were small, May stayed at home and took loving care of them. She was an excellent seamstress, making all her daughters dresses and spent many late nights making beautiful doll clothes. After the children started school, May started working for Emery School District, first as a School Lunch Lady and then as a Secretary at Emery High School. She enjoyed associating with both the students and teachers and developed many friends.

May was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many teaching and leadership callings. She was always willing to help in any way she could. May and Bill served a mission in Grande Prairie, Canada where they gained many dear and loving friends.

May's greatest love was her family. She spent many hours helping Bill on the farm and supported her children in all their activities; spending countless hours watching Riding Club, Music and Dance performances, and ball games. She continued that support with her grandchildren and enjoyed seeing them succeed in all their activities.

May is survived by her husband, William (Bill) Jorgensen; her children, Peggy and Garth Johnson, Julie and Bill Valora, Jackie and Joe Ruden, Kent and Nancy Jorgensen, Annette and Rob MacPherson, and Steven and Michelle Jorgensen; 21 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Janice Behunin.

May is preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Ida Behunin; brother, Dale; and sister, Mary Lou.

May was a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be dearly missed, but we are comforted by our memories of her and our knowledge that she is with her loving parents and that we, through the gift of our Savior, Jesus Christ, will see her again.

We want to express our sincere thanks to everyone at Summerfield Assisted Living and Health Watch for their compassionate and loving care.

Funeral Service, Saturday, January 31, 2026, 11:00 a.m., Castle Dale Stake Center (35 East Main Street) in Castle Dale. The family will receive friends at the church from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment, Castle Dale City Cemetery.
