Megan Mattern Obituary

Megan Mattern

Midland, TX - Megan Mattern, 44, passed away on March 15, 2024, at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, after a valiant fight with cancer. Born December 6, 1979 to Wes and Susan Mattern, Megan grew up in a large family. She was smart, quick-witted, friendly and loved to travel. Her many talents included excelling in academics, writing and public speaking skills, calligraphy, ability to easily learn languages- Spanish,French, Romanian and Arabic, breaking into song at any moment, cooking delicious foods, beautifully wrapping gifts, and a ready smile. She truly loved people and took much effort to care for them in real and tangible ways. She embraced people from all walks of life and had friends from all over the world. Even when faced with the hardships of life, Megan exhibited perseverance, resilience and true Mattern humor. She found solace in her faith in Jesus and the promise of everlasting life and gladly shared that hope with others. Though never able to have children of her own, a pain she deeply felt, Megan had a gift with children. Her maternal heart found an outlet in her role as sister, aunt, teacher, nanny, babysitter, and to orphans in Mexico, Romania and Morocco. Even during her time at Teen Challenge in Midland, Tx and afterwards with the homeless in Lubbock, TX, she touched the hearts and lives around her. Years of struggling with addiction took Megan away from her family before cancer did. It will always be a sadness for us. We take comfort that Megan made it home, was safe and surrounded by love in her last moments and that we will see her again in heaven. Megan is survived by her father Wes Mattern (Janice), mother Susan Boles (Bonnie Arnold), and siblings: Luke Mattern (Jennifer) and children and grandchildren, Josh Mattern (Holly) and children, Phoebe Preston (Marc) and her children and grandchild, Annie Martell (Nathaniel) and children, Sarah Moxley (Jeremiah) and children, Robin Lyman and children, John Mattern, Deborah Higgins (Ryan), David Mattern, Molly Nash (Eric), Benjamin Mattern and step-sisters Miranda Campbell and children and Jennifer Joyner and children. A memorial gathering will take place in July.
