William Lawrence “Bill” Mattern, aged 68 of Fairborn, OH, passed away, Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was born November 18, 1957, in Xenia, OH, the son of Thomas Lee “Tom” and Bernice Oga (Ebersteiner) Mattern. Bill was a lifetime resident of Fairborn, OH, and a 1976 graduate of Fairborn High School.

A dedicated worker, Bill spent many years as a meat cutter at Fulmer's grocery in Fairborn, where his commitment to quality and service was appreciated by colleagues and customers alike. His work ethic and friendly demeanor left a lasting impact on those who knew him.

Bill had a deep passion for family, placing great value on the time spent with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. They enjoyed many joyful moments together, creating fond memories while building model rockets that sparked both delight and creativity. These experiences were a testament to Bill's loving nature and his desire to share his interests with the younger generations.

In addition to being a devoted family man, Bill had a wide array of interests. During his younger years, he enjoyed golfing and spent many joyful hours on the course. He was also the proud owner of a Honda Goldwing motorcycle, which brought him immense joy and freedom on the open road. Bill's love for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of fishing, boating, and being on the water, activities which allowed him to connect with nature and find serenity.

For many years, health reasons led Bill to spend approximately half of the year in Floral City, Florida. He loved his time there, embracing the warm climate and vibrant surroundings, which offered him a peaceful retreat from the rigors of everyday life.

Bill is preceded in death by his dear mother. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen K. (York) Mattern; two sons, William “Shawn” (Bradie) Mattern, Christopher “Scott” (Amy) Mattern; one granddaughter, Shyanne; two grandsons, Anthony, Joshua; father, Tom Mattern; one brother, James (Debby) Mattern; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Ohio's Hospice of Dayton, below. Arrangements in care of Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, Fairborn, OH.
