Carol Suzanne Clark

Carol Suzanne (Burgess) Clark, passed away peacefully at Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton, on December 17th, 2025, age 88. She was preceded in passing by her parents, Jess and Virginia Burgess; and by her sister and brother-in-law, Lynne and Bob Caldwell.

Carol is survived by her husband of 69 years, Nelson C. Clark; daughter, Amy (Roger) Houck; son, Curtis (Janice) Clark; grandsons, Coleman (Brooke) and Adam (Jenna) Clark; granddaughter, Jenny (Michael) Hitzges; grandson, Robert (Cher) Caden; great-grandchildren, Ming and Natalie Caden, & Ronan and Brooke Hitzges. Carol is also survived by many treasured nieces, nephews, and extended family relatives.

Carol Suzanne was born to Jess and Virginia Burgess, on September 18th, 1937, in Dayton, Ohio. She grew up in Osborne (later Fairborn) Ohio, and graduated from Fairborn High School in 1955. She married her high school sweetheart, Nelson Clark, in June, 1956, and became an “Air Force Wife” the following year. She kept their Hyannis, MA, home running smoothly, raising daughter Amy and son Curtis while Nelson crewed “RC-121 Warning Star” missions over the Atlantic Ocean and while he served a tour of duty in North Africa. The Clark family returned to Fairborn in 1962, where Carol continued to excel doing what she valued most: providing a stable and loving home to her family, enhanced with spiritual guidance and with the teaching of lifelong values and manners to Amy and Curtis.

Carol was interested in many things in her life! She learned to play the piano as a child, she was an amateur beautician, and she had natural artistic ability and fashion sense. Carol was the very first passenger for newly-minted-pilot and son Curtis in 1977, she enjoyed swimming, she was a “pretty darn-good” team bowler, and she enjoyed raising and arranging her own flowers. Carol even enjoyed fishing, and it seemed that somehow, she could catch fish when nobody else even got a nibble!

In later years, Carol enjoyed working as a Home-Aid provider to members of her church, as well as being a revered “Grammy” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also got to travel to Europe and to China, where she was a crucial figure-as a venerated Grandparent- wearing traditional Chinese costume in the wedding of her grandson and his Chinese bride.

Carol was a class-taught, former member of Second Church of Christ, Scientist, Dayton and a recent member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Dayton.

Visitation will be held from 2:30pm-3:00pm on Sunday, January 4, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3380 Dayton-Xenia Rd, Beavercreek), where funeral services will begin at 3:00pm.
