Megan Murphy Obituary
Published by Legacy on Aug. 11, 2025.
Megan Stokes Tate Murphy of Cedar Park, Texas, wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend left us on August 10, 2025. Megan was loved and loveable and lived a life serving others and the public.
Megan is survived by her husband, Daniel Edward Murphy, and her cherished daughters, Caitlin Sulan Murphy of New York City and Grace Yuexiang Murphy of Cedar Park. Dan and their daughters were the center of Megan's life. Megan is the daughter of Joseph A. and Dr. Detta Tate of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. She is the sister of Joseph A., Jr. (Kate) of Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania and Matthew B. (Liesl) of Havertown, Pennsylvania. She is the aunt of Stokes and Marielle of Meadowbrook, Pennsylvania.
Megan is survived by Dan's parents, Paul and Mary Lou Murphy of The Villages, Florida, and Dan's sister Colleen (Pat) Deskin, and their daughter, Lauren, of Andover, Massachusetts.
Megan and Dan had a wonderful marriage and were true partners in all they did. The relied on each other professionally, as parents, and most importantly, as friends. Megan loved her "girls." Caitlin and Grace were the love of her life and the "center of her universe." She was so proud of Caitlin's academic and swim success at Williams College and of Grace's academic and artistic talents, which she continues to develop at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Megan was a serious proponent of public service. Her educational focus was to serve others. After graduating from Harriton High School in Bryn Mawr, she earned her B.A. degree from Tulane University and her Masters degree in Public Administration from American University in Washington, D.C. Her career included positions with Governor Mario Cuomo of New York in his D.C. office, the U.S. Department of Justice C.O.P.S. program, and positions with Chester County, Pennsylvania and Lake County, Illinois as a grants administrator. Her most recent position was her favorite, working for the Round Rock, Texas Independent School District's ("RRISD") Families in Transition program supporting children in homeless situations with enhanced opportunities, food, clothing, books, and other needed resources. That position gave her the greatest satisfaction and joy.
Megan traveled each summer to the family home in Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts, which she called her "happy place." She loved the beach, ocean and watching her girls and their cousins frolic in the water and sun. She often returned to Bryn Mawr to visit family and friends and she and Dan and the girls vacationed all over the United States, Europe and Mexico.
Although diagnosed with cancer in 2019, Megan remained determined to be actively involved in her daughters' lives, attending graduations, swim meets, cross-county meets, spearheading two college searches and making numerous visits to Williamstown, Massachusetts and New York City to be with them.
Megan enjoyed her short life to the fullest, had many happy times and her infectious personality made all around her loved her and want to with be with her forever. Unfortunately, Megan left us all too soon. She was surrounded by family and love as she left us. Goodbye, Megan. We will keep you in our hearts forever.
