Megan Raye Shannon was born on April 2, 1991, to Bryon and Nora Shannon in Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was made healed and whole to begin walking physically with the Lord on September 26, 2025, at the age of 34. She passed peacefully at Saint Francis Muskogee, surrounded by her loved ones.
In 2001, when her mother, Nora, went home to be with the Lord herself, Megan was blessed with a bonus mom, Anna Shannon, whom she quickly grew to love wholeheartedly. In this earthly life, she was a beloved daughter, sister, niece, aunt, friend, and champion! She lived her 34 years to the fullest and overcame many obstacles, both seen and unseen.
From her earliest years, Megan's life was marked by joy, determination, and a love for life and for people. She grew up in Okay, Oklahoma, and attended Okay Public Schools from kindergarten through twelfth grade. During those years, she discovered her passion for sports, especially cheerleading and basketball. Megan knew no boundaries and was always willing to learn, practice, and participate in any capacity. She was thrilled during her senior year when she was crowned homecoming queen for cheer during the 2011 basketball season.
Megan grew up alongside her ornery little sister, Lora, whom she loved deeply. She also had two older siblings she loved and enjoyed seeing whenever she could, Chris and Misty. Growing up, her best friends Tina and Lisa were never far from her side. Lisa remained her best friend well into adulthood, and the two of them could often be found shopping together. Megan loved shopping, and it was easily her favorite hobby. Her favorite purchases were her many purses and her Paparazzi Jewelry.
Megan was always known for being full of spunk. She could be sassy, quick-witted, and never afraid to speak her mind, usually with a signature head bob or a perfectly timed "mean mug" and her ever-strong signature eye roll. But beneath all that sass was a heart of pure gold and love for everyone. She was strong physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually all throughout her life. Megan loved Jesus with her whole heart and enjoyed going to Sunday school with her aunts as a child.
She had a deep love for music - especially Elvis Presley, the Blues Brothers, and Johnny Cash. She could sing every Elvis song word for word in her signature "Elvis voice," much to the delight of her family and friends. Megan loved attending Friday night oldies shows and The Gospel Singin' with her late Aunt Kathy and honorary aunts, Sissy and Sarah. One of her favorite memories was receiving scarves from her favorite Elvis impersonator as he serenaded her with "Can't Help Falling in Love." She also enjoyed spending as much time as possible with her late aunt Arleen.
In adulthood, Megan worked at Golden Rule Industries, where she made many friends and met her boyfriend Johnathan, who held a very special place in her heart for many years. In recent years, she cherished spending time at home with her mom and dad, playing blingo, and faithfully liking and commenting on every picture her sister Lora posted of her nephews, whom she loved dearly and celebrated with great pride.
Megan was known for her big heart and the way she loved so deeply. Even while facing medical challenges in her earthly life, she kept a strong, positive attitude and remained hopeful and happy at all times. She truly had a gift for bringing joy and hope to others just by being herself.
She is preceded in death by her mother Nora Shannon; her maternal grandparents Ellis and Helen Cauthon; her paternal grandparents Harry and Maxine Shannon; her beloved maternal aunts Kathy Aulmun, Arleen Cauthon, and Leona Crossland; her paternal aunts Terri Espe, Tammy McIntosh, and Susan Kellem; her paternal uncles Randy Shannon and Harry Shannon; and her nephew Justin Shannon.
