Meliton Sandoval, Jr., 68, of Ogallala, passed away on March 2, 2025, at Ogallala Community Hospital.

Mel was born on December 7, 1956, in Julesburg, Colorado, to Meliton Sr. and Virginia (Ramos) Sandoval. He grew up in Julesburg and attended Julesburg High School. A dedicated worker, Mel spent his career in the Maintenance of Way Department of the railroad, beginning in 1982 and retiring in 2021.

In 2000, Mel married Sandra Sandoval in Ogallala, where they made their home. He was a loving husband, father, grandpa, and brother. Much of his most cherished time was spent with family, savoring a good meal, or just having a laid-back time together.

Mel enjoyed cruising to Julesburg on weekends, listening to music, bowling, and cheering on the Denver Broncos. He loved to fish and spent much time doing so at Lake Mac.

Mel is survived by his wife, Sandra, of Ogallala; children, Angelo, Emily, Raymond, Amanda, Gloria, Sara, Santos, and Robert; as well as numerous grandchildren; his siblings, Helen, Daniel, and Madeline; and many friends.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Meliton and Virginia Sandoval Sr; daughter, Alaina Babe Sandoval; grandchildren, Ariana Wright and Nathaniel Sandoval; and siblings, Albert, Gloria, Irene, Victor, Mike, and Angie.

A memorial has been established in Mel's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared at prairiehillsjulesburg.com, where the Mass will be streamed live.

Fuenral Mass will be held on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Julesburg, with Father Mike O'Brien as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Hillside Cemetery at Julesburg.
