Obituary published on Legacy.com by Olpin Family Mortuary on Sep. 21, 2023.
It is with great sadness that the family of Melanie Draper announces her passing, Monday, September 18, 2023 due to complications from a bowel obstruction. A beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, cousin, friend and neighbor. She will be dearly missed.
Melanie was born on November16, 1962 and was the middle daughter of LaMar Wilde and Edna Mae Wilde. She attended Orem High School and graduated class of 1980.
She met and married her Sweetheart, Matt Draper on September 24, 1982 in the Provo LDS temple. They would have been married 42 years this upcoming Sunday. Nine months after they got married, she became a mother to Maegan (Martin). During her pregnancy she had a complication that caused her to lose her vision & was legally blind. This hardship didn't stop her from doing anything that she had her mind set on, including going on some joy rides even when she wasn't able to drive. She never complained and always tried to find the best in any situation. Eighteen years later she welcomed their son, Kaden through the miracle of adoption. Four years later she completed her family with their second son, Dugan, also through the miracle of adoption. She loves to refer to her children as white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate. Mel absolutely loved being a mother and was overjoyed to complete her family. Mel was beyond excited when she became a grandmother to her and Anaya tried to be the fun grandma even if it meant spoiling them. She would do absolutely anything for her children and grandchildren. She loved fiercely!!
She was fondly known as Mel or Melly by all who knew her. She was so full of life and had such a contagious laugh. A laugh so loud & unique that people knew it was her laughing without even seeing her. Mel was so selfless- she would give the last of anything she had to anyone that needed it. She was so creative and crafty and loved to decorate her house for every holiday and was so good at it. She loved Disneyland & went almost every year. She soaked up every minute that she could spend with her family.
Mel had such a strong work ethic and always have 110%. She worked many jobs throughout her life but most recently, worked at Blendtec for over 20 years making so many great friends along the way. However, her most treasured work was done in the home.
Melanie is survived by her husband Mathew, children Maegan (Martin), Kaden and Dugan. Her grandchildren Agnes (Martin) and Beckett (Martin) her sisters Marbara Payne and Stephanie Miller and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents LaMar Wilde & Edna Mae Wilde
We would like to express a special thanks to all the wonderful nurses and doctors who cared for her like she was family at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center, we appreciate all you did for her up until the very end.
