Melanie Mendez Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 9, 2025.
Melanie Sue Mendez, 67, of Fruitland Park, passed away peacefully at South Lake Hospital in Clermont Florida, August 26, 2025.

Biography

Melanie was born on March 9, 1958, in San Francisco, California, to Ruby Jean Baggett and Lee Shaver. From an early age, Melanie carried a nurturing spirit that guided much of her life. She earned her certificate as a nursing assistant and found deep purpose in caring for others, working as a dedicated home health aide for many years.

Her love of children and family shone through everything she did. She opened her home as a daycare owner, where she became a second mom to many little ones over the years. She was also a tireless presence in the PTA at her children's schools, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on and support their growth.

In September 1996, Melanie married Andres Mendez, with whom she built a loving and supportive home. She will be remembered as a woman of quiet strength, endless kindness, and the type of laughter that could light up a room. To her family and friends, she was not only a caretaker, but also a confidant, a teacher, and a source of unconditional love.

Family

Melanie is survived by her devoted husband, Andres Mendez; her stepdaughter, Shari Mendez; her son, Zim Mendez; and her daughter, Desirae Mendez. She was preceded in death by her father, the late Lee Shaver.
