Born and raised in Marshalltown, Melanie graduated from Marshalltown High School and spent her life working hard in every role she held, whether as a CNA or at various local hotels. She was someone who always kept herself busy and was never afraid to put in the work.
Melanie was known for doing things on “Melanie time” — usually meaning a little later than planned — but she always showed up in her own way, with her own style, and with a presence you could never forget. Fierce, honest, and unafraid to take anything from anyone, she stood up for herself and for the people she loved without hesitation.
She loved shopping, had a personality that could fill a room, and held a deep, unwavering love for her son, Oliver, who was truly her entire world.
Melanie is survived by her beloved son, Oliver; her parents, Max and Vicki (Whitman) Nelson; her siblings Carl, Danielle, Megan, Melissa (Eric Seymour), and Michaela; and many nieces and nephews who adored her.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents Wilbur and Darlene Whitman, Max Nelson Sr. and Ellen Clingerman , as well as her brother-in-law’s Robbi Kluck and James Lavender.
Her strength, humor, and unmistakable spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
